January Collection Opportunities

Donate sneakers, coats, or personal care items to Downey Elementary

We have been talking about Bridge Building moments and encouraging you to take relational next steps with people in your spheres of influence. We know that bridge building can be harder when we are so isolated and, in many ways, just tired. As a church, we want to build bridges with our community by being generous in these difficult times.

Throughout the month of January, we will be collecting items for three local organizations: Downey Elementary Caring Closet, Love INC Sneaker Drive, and Coats for Cocoa. All three of these local organizations aim to not only offer material items but form relationships with people and encourage them on their journey. These are small and yet important ways for us to build bridges and care for others. Items can be dropped off at the Orange Lobby or in the hallway outside the library.

Downey Elementary Caring Closet

Downey Caring Closet is a tangible way for the school community to meet families' basic needs in order to bridge the gap between home and school and remove barriers for families to meet educational needs. Sometimes families are so overwhelmed with unmet basic needs that they find it difficult to focus on school needs. Items needed for the Downey Caring Closet are:

  • Diapers and disposable baby wipes (most commonly requested diaper sizes are 3, 4, and 5)
  • Feminine products
  • Toothpaste/brushes
  • Soap
  • Deodorant

We will be collecting these items throughout the month of January. Items can be dropped off at the Orange Lobby or in the hallway outside the library.

Love INC Sneaker Drive

Love INC is a collaboration of churches who seek to alleviate poverty for those in need. They believe that everyone’s journey matters and aim to provide a relational and caring environment to offer hope and help. We're partnering with Love INC to provide new sneakers and socks for students in local area school districts. Brand name sneakers are preferred for quality and durability. The most commonly needed sizes are listed below.

  • Boys (youth) = sizes 12 to 6 ½
  • Men’s = sizes 7 to 15
  • Girls (youth) = sizes 12 to 4
  • Women’s = Sizes 5 to 11

We will be collecting these items throughout the month of January. Items can be dropped off at the Orange Lobby or in the hallway outside the library.

Coats for Cocoa

Coats for Cocoa collects new winter coats for local students who otherwise would not be able to afford a warm winter coat. The end-of-season sales are a great time to purchase a coat for a student in preparation for next winter. All sizes are welcome, including adult sizes for older children, which were in short supply last year. Please note: only new coats can be accepted.

We will be collecting these items throughout the month of January. Items can be dropped off at the Orange Lobby or in the hallway outside the library.
