Have you ever felt like you’re trying hard to grow in your faith but aren’t experiencing the change you hoped to see? Trying to live out your faith can be frustrating. Instead of trying, we are called to train. Train to live out our faith through repeated practices of spiritual rhythms. We want to engage in spiritual rhythms to help us grow deeper. The benefit of spiritual rhythms is transformation into Christ-likeness. We want to be a people rooted in faith so that we can stand firm through the highs and lows. We want to experience freedom and live the abundant life promised in Scripture.
A spiritual rhythm is anything you intentionally do by your own desire and effort. As you practice these rhythms and build them into a habit, they become part of who you are and enable the Holy Spirit to work in your life in a new way. For example, it takes practice to learn how to ride a bike or play the piano. Eventually, training to do something becomes second nature, and you can do it without thinking. Spiritual rhythms are activities we purposely do to train us to bring our personality and whole being into cooperation with God. Spiritual rhythms enable us to live more like Jesus. When we arrange our lives to include spiritual rhythms, we experience transformation by the Spirit.
Over the next year, you are invited to participate in rhythms of rest, prayer, advent, scripture, and community. Starting in June 2023, we are focusing on one rhythm every three months (except for the advent rhythm, which will occur in December). You can find physical cards at the Feature Wall which will serve to build a Spiritual Rhythm library.
Practice each rhythm. Learn some practical tips and ideas to try. Watch a video or listen to a podcast. Read an article for additional insight. Regularly reflect on your journey.
